Wellesley House Renovation

Wellesley, MA

The Clients Goal:

This kitchen project is located in a historic gingerbread-style home in Wellesley, Massachusetts, known for its intricate woodwork, rich textures, and layered architectural detailing. The client wanted to create a large, open concept kitchen that could better support modern living and entertaining, but the existing footprint and historic character made this a delicate task. The challenge was to introduce a meaningful addition that expanded the kitchen without diluting the craftsmanship and material language that define the home.

Our Solution:

We designed a kitchen addition that balances openness with respect for the home’s historic character. The new space is organized as an open concept kitchen that improves flow, light, and functionality, while carefully selecting tones and materials that echo the existing wood and stone detailing found throughout the house. Cabinetry, finishes, and architectural elements were chosen to feel cohesive with the original craftsmanship rather than competing with it. The result is a kitchen that feels generous and contemporary in function, yet deeply rooted in the character and material richness of the historic home.
