Modern Sunroom

Belmont, MA

The Clients Goal:

New to New England, this family was looking to make the most of their home by adding a bright, inviting space where they could soak up the sun and enjoy their yard year-round. With a love for natural light and a few equally sun-seeking cats, they needed a room that felt open and warm, even during the colder months. The existing rooflines were complex, and integrating a new addition without overwhelming the home’s character was a key challenge. They also wanted to create stronger indoor-outdoor connections for everyday living and entertaining.

Our Solution:

Our design centered around a light-filled addition that feels like a natural extension of the home, both inside and out. A flat roof allowed us to accomplish two important goals: it gave the new space generous ceiling height for a bright, airy feel and provided a clean way to tie into the existing complex roof geometry without visual clutter. We added a wrap-around porch and a set of bi-folding doors that open wide, creating a seamless flow between the interior and outdoor living areas. Ample windows, a skylight, and thoughtful orientation maximize sunlight throughout the day, making it the perfect place for reading, gathering, and of course, cat naps in the sun. The result is a functional and joyful space that welcomes both people and pets alike.
