Hollis Sunroom Addition

Hollis, NH

The Clients Goal:

This historic Hollis, New Hampshire home was already mid-transformation. In Phase 1, the property received a modern addition designed to complement and intentionally contrast the original structure. For Phase 2, the clients wanted a sunroom that could expand everyday living and strengthen the home’s connection to the landscape. The challenge was architectural and contextual. The new sunroom needed to respect the historic character of the original house while also feeling like a natural continuation of the modern addition, not a separate or competing piece.

Our Solution:

We designed the sunroom as an intentional extension of both old and new. Its form, scale, and detailing were carefully calibrated to complement the historic home, using proportion and restraint to keep the addition grounded in the original architecture. At the same time, the sunroom aligns with the language of the modern Phase 1 addition through clean transitions, simplified lines, and a clear connection between interior spaces. Abundant glazing brings in natural light and reinforces the room’s purpose as a bright, seasonal living space, while the overall massing and materials create a cohesive, integrated composition across the entire home. The result is an addition that feels respectful, fresh, and fully belonging to both eras of the house.
