The Clients Goal:

This family was planning for the long term. They wanted a way for aging parents to remain close while maintaining independence, comfort, and dignity as they age in place. At the same time, the main home needed to continue functioning for the rest of the family, with enough space to gather, host, and support multiple generations under one property. The challenge was to balance proximity with privacy, creating a solution that supported generational living without overwhelming the site or disrupting daily life.

Our Solution:

Our solution was a modest accessory dwelling unit designed specifically for aging in place. The new home provides a comfortable, right-sized living environment that allows the parents to downsize while staying connected to their family. The layout prioritizes accessibility, natural light, and ease of movement, with all essential spaces located on a single level. Thoughtful placement on the property maintains a sense of independence while still allowing for close interaction and shared outdoor space. The result is a flexible, future-focused approach to generational living that keeps family together while honoring individual needs.
